Glossary
Here are a few definitions of our professional jargon:
Aligning: setting or final positioning of the equipment
Anchor bolts: rods grouted into the foundation to hold down the machine
Caulking and strain hardening: wear of a metal due to efforts higher than its elastic limit
Cavitation: formation of cavities
Concrete foundation: the concrete support on which an equipment stands
Chocking: the application of pourable shims /stabilizing using pourable shims
Boring: drilling holes into concrete
Corrosion: wear by weather and environment
Erosion: progressive degradation of a part
Foundation cap: upper part of a concrete foundation
Grouting in: fixing a part inside a cavity
Injection: application of a resin by injection
Jacking screws: supporting devices used when performing alignment of machinery.
Machining: work performed on steel to obtain requested dimensions.
Polymerization: chemical reaction of the mixture (resin/ hardener) causing the product to harden (curing process)
Pourable volume: quantity of pourable material per layer
Product-solution: made-to-measure solution composed of a product and its technical implementation procedure
Refilling: pouring product into worn parts
Resurfacing: reconstitution and protection of a foundation area
Roughening: removing laitance from concrete
Seating: support for a machine on a ship
Sole plate: metal plate placed under the jack screws to allow alignment
Thermosetting: action of self heating of materials mixed (resin and hardener)
