Pump failure in dunkirk

November 1998: the Sollac iron and steel facility in Dunkirk required urgent attention. One of the cooling pumps was vibrating. But a long shutdown could not be contemplated, for reasons of cost and organization within the industrial chain. The work would have to be completed as quickly as possible. Polyrésine reacted:

The diagnosis

The cooling pump was vibrating. And the motor itself showed signs of trembling. This chocking defect was causing a contact problem between the pump and the motor, thereby causing operational problems and endangering safety in the vicinity.
This pump needed new chocks as soon as possible.

The solution

To satisfy Sollac’s emergency conditions, Polyrésine proposed a solution using a product – Polyrep gray – which hardens in one hour. The work consisted of demolishing the existing chocks and cleaning the surfaces. Sollac repositioned the pump, shuttering was made and then the product was poured, followed by one hour for hardening and locking the ties in position.

The Polyrésine solution is:
- A rapid response to an urgent problem: the chosen product has sufficient mechanical resistance for a reduced polymerization time.
- A simple procedure.
- Reliability guaranteed by a detailed procedure.

Site memories...

A few hours were sufficient for the two technicians to resolve this pump problem. One hour after pouring the product, the pump was once again firmly in place and operational.

Apart from the reliability of the repair, it was the speed and availability of the Polyrésine technicians which was crucial to this mission. A perfect example of the notion of service: the reaction time was more than a match for the urgency of the problem…
